Theory to Action addresses the full continuum of needs: from individual training and supervision, to quality services that achieve outcomes across clinical, financial, and other measures.

Our team is comprised of experts who have successfully implemented Motivational Interviewing in various industries including health coaching, community-based and substance use treatment centers, public health, children and youth services, higher education, general research, business leadership, and the full spectrum of the healthcare industry.

Karin Wilson, MA, MCHC

President

An expert in Motivational Interviewing and a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), Karin is the founder of Theory to Action, NM.  Karin has significant research experience and has served as co-investigator on various multi-million dollar grants examining the efficacy of Motivational Interviewing in various settings.  Karin has previously worked as a consultant with the Center on Alcoholism, Substance Abuse, and Addictions (CASAA) in New Mexico, the VA Hospital System in Alaska, the Office of the US Airforce Surgeon General in Falls Church, VA, and the University of Texas San Antonio, along with 10 years of working as a psychologist within the National Health System (NHS) in the United Kingdom.

Theresa Moyers, PhD.

Consultant

A member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of New Mexico. Terri is an expert in the clinical practice of motivational interviewing and her research focuses on identifying the active ingredients of motivational interviewing and the best ways to teach it to frontline providers. Terri is a co-creator of the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) coding tool.

Denise Ernst, PhD.

Consultant

A member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and a coding geek since the beginning of motivational interviewing coding! Part of the development team for the MISC and the MITI. Involved in coding for individual coaching, implementation efforts, and treatment fidelity for research. Got to love that coding!

Paul Wilson, Ph.D.

Consultant

Paul is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). He served the US Air Force with distinction, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and retired from active duty with over 20 years of service.

 

Paul served in many clinical and leadership positions in the Air Force and helped develop numerous innovative programs and processes for the Air Force in mental health, substance abuse, health psychology and psychological factors in military and healthcare operations. His last job in the Air Force was as inspector and mentor for all mental health operations across the Air Force.

 

Paul has worked for Presbyterian Medical Group in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he served as Director, Primary Care Behavioral Health. As Director he was responsible for all behavioral health services in primary care settings, including mental health, substance abuse and behavioral factors in medical care. He spearheaded many innovations for the health care system.

 

Paul is currently working as a civilian psychologist for the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia, providing health care for all military beneficiaries in the National Capitol Region.

Christina Phillips, MA

Coding Lab Specialist

A member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), Christina leads training and clinical supervision, and she manages and conducts research projects that support the effective application of evidence-based theories, including Motivational Interviewing.  Christina currently works as a Clinical Research Manager with the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Department of Family and Community Medicine, in addition to providing on-site support to our partners.

Tara McCune, MA, LPCC

Coding Lab Specialist

A member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), Tara provides MI training and coded feedback to clients in various settings: high schools, healthcare clinics, research projects, and in community-based settings.  

Julia Timmerman, LCSW, CAC III, ACS

Coding Lab Specialist

A member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), Julia provides MI trainings to a wide range of health professionals and organizations. Julia also offers clinical supervision and has been a part of the development and application of integrated evidence-based treatments for adolescent substance use and behavioral health care in Colorado.

Mary Beth Toth, BA

Senior Analyst

Mary Beth has more than 20 years of experience at Blue Cross Blue Shield where she consults on best methods and systems to provide self-service analytics to customers. Mary Beth supports Theory to Action by  bringing best methods and practices to the data collection and analysis process, ensuring that the most efficient and secure operations are in place for both our coding specialists and for our clients.
